One Week In

Today was my one-week anniversary of the new job and I have to say I think this is shaping up to be a fantastic fit.

For the most part I’ve been mired in administrative/settling in tasks, but my team members have been inviting me along on home visits so that I can start getting a feel for the situations and dynamics that I am likely to encounter when I start getting my own referrals in a few weeks.

I think that this job is going to inspire me … break my heart … frustrate me … piss me off … and challenge me every single day.

As an anthropologist, I love that I am going to know people’s stories.

As a nurse, I love that I am going to be able to look at the whole person and his/her situation and go beyond acute interventions.I also love that I will be respected by doctors, who will consider me an expert when I contact them about a client’s needs. What a concept.

As a colleague, I love that I will be able to rely on the wisdom, knowledge and experience of professionals who can offer expertise in their own areas. I have already witnessed case managers bouncing ideas off one another, and sharing resources at team meetings. I am thrilled to be part of this environment.

It just goes to show the beauty of nursing: It offers SO MANY diverse opportunities!
