Call A Code

I participated in my first Code Blue early Thursday morning.

Followed by my first postmortem care. 🙁

One of our most “stable” patients couldn’t be revived early in the morning. My preceptor rushed in to help, I called the code, and all of the sudden the unit was a flurry of activity. When the first rhythm check came back as asystole, we all looked at each other and shook our heads. We knew the eventual outcome.

Family was called. Time of death was called. We were all reeling in shock. Of all the patients… It just goes to show you never know.

I drove home and straight into S’s arms. That was a heavy one.

Hug and kiss your loved ones tonight.
